Milwaukee keeps a total of seven old-school holiday activities alive and in high spirits, every year! From the Kooky Cooky House to Billie the Brownie, there are holiday activities for the entire family to enjoy!

If your time is limited, All My Sons of Milwaukee suggests that you visit the following top three venues before the celebrations are over. Let your local moving company take care of your move, while you and your loved ones celebrate the holidays with the rest of Milwaukee.

  1. Kooky Cooky House: Opening in the 60s, the Kooky Cooky House (a human-scale cookie factory), was a Christmastime must-see. Today, the rebuilt replica is located at Discovery World and gives free cookies to everyone!
  2. Mitchell Park Domes: The Mitchell Park Domes are a must-see, year-round attraction. However, they have displayed a holiday themed floral show annual since 1964. The 2014 Dome show is “Mele Kalikimaka”, the Hawaiian phrase for Merry Christmas.
  3. Christmas tree-gazing at Elsa’s: Mixing up one of the most popular traditions is Elsa’s on the Park. Elsa’s on the Park mixes the untraditional with the traditional when it comes to Christmas trees. Be sure to stop by and see what the Christmas tree is made out of this year. In past years, it has been decorated with Barbie, broken martini glasses, and even 20,000 safety pins.

Every star has to start somewhere; as for Dwyane Wade, his basketball career kick-started at Milwaukee’s Marquette University…and he has not forgotten it. Although Wade currently resides in Miami, Florida, starring for the Miami Heat basketball team, he has not forgotten about his Milwaukee roots.

The basketball star is donating $195,000 over the next three years in order to jump-start a summer reading program for local Milwaukee children.

Although many critics are calling Wade’s donation a “random act of kindness”, Wade sees it as a donation that hits close to home.

During Wade’s freshman year at Marquette University, he received tutoring in order to improve his writing skills and be eligible to play on the men’s basketball team. The following year, Wade stepped onto the court and soon became one of Marquette’s most decorated players of all time, landing him the career he has today.

As a player, Wade is exceptional and does not strive for anything less when it comes to giving back to the community. His effort to boost the resources of Milwaukee students by using the “Live to Dream” summer reading program, is just one of the many contributions that he has made through the Wade’s World Foundation. The “Live to Dream” program in Milwaukee provides free tutoring and transportation to and from the Hartman Center for many low-income children.

If you move to Milwaukee, you will feel the generosity of NBA all-star Dwayne Wade, who actively encourages Milwaukee residents to aid in children’s’ learning by donating contributions or gently used books. For more information on Milwaukee, call your local All My Sons moving company today!

The YMCA in Milwaukee is redirecting their efforts to aim towards the community as a whole. This does not mean that the local fitness center will be less fitness oriented, it means that they will be implementing a stronger emphasis on healthy living within the community.

A new proposal has been discussed in order to save the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee’s future. The YMCA in Milwaukee has been facing a continuous net loss year after year, resulting in the possibility of the Milwaukee location closing. The organization’s financial problems are due to an attempt to expand, coupled with a decline in the amount of memberships and donations. The increasing competition of fitness centers and the YMCA has also contributed to the organization’s financial disparity.

Fortunately, the Milwaukee YMCA has rebranded its campaign and is now largely focused on health and wellness, as well as youth development. By including swimming classes, senior and corporate and community wellness programs, camps and after-school care, and a 50% cut on annual expenditures, the YMCA has a bright financial future.

If you are moving to Milwaukee and are looking for a new fitness and wellness center, stop by the local YMCA. Sign up your entire family and not only reap the benefits of the Y’s new rebranding campaign “Make It Count”, but also help contribute to keeping the Milwaukee YMCA alive.

If you are relocating your office to Milwaukee, be sure to take a look at the recently elected ‘Coolest Offices’ of Milwaukee for the best designing ideas.

Today, offices are not as simple as stacking cubicles side by side in a monotone color. That ship has sailed and has opened doors to fun and creative office designs. The most recent trend in office designs has been the concept of ‘open-space’. As implied, open-space offices are basically open for everyone to see and hear each other. This trend launched from the notion of companies breaking down the barriers between each class of workers. Now ‘my door is open’ has been taken to a new level since many offices have gotten rid of doors all together.

In a way, the open-space trend encourages a trusting and friendlier environment, unlike the old designs where everyone is hiding behind their doors or high-divider cubicles.

As for Milwaukee, there are a number of top-notch office designs and the Milwaukee Business Journal regularly features them. This week’s pic was the Harley Davidson’s Headquarters on West Juneau Avenue.

Harley Davidson Inc’s does not save its top of the line motorcycles just for its client, they also display them for their employees. Their unique space features many memorabilia and luxury motorcycles throughout the office. Apart from the visual appeal, this office has an onsite restaurant, dry cleaners, nursery rooms, fitness center, and spa facility. Although it seems like a little much, providing all of these amenities actually provides a more efficient work force.

By having daily necessities such as a nursery for mothers, the Harley Davison employees can be more focused on work. The future of offices are not only fashionably trendy, they are going to transform the work performance. For a few tips on designing your open-space office in Milwaukee, visit your local All My Sons site to read up on today’s growing office trends.

To kick off November with a BANG, Bostik Inc. hosted its annual global innovation forum in Milwaukee with 160 employees from 25 countries. The French manufacturer of adhesives and sealants switched things up this year by hosting their annual event outside of Europe for the first time, and in no other city than Milwaukee. Bostik Inc. employs roughly 5,000 people from across 50 countries and chose to host their annual forum in Milwaukee rather than its usual famous cities such as Paris and Shanghai.

Milwaukee is not only a destination for up and coming families looking for a place to settle down, it is also becoming a destination hot spot for global innovation gatherings as well. The significance of having such a large global convention hosted in Milwaukee has not been overlooked. The president of the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce recognized the global exposure that the Bostik event brought to Milwaukee by having people from all around the world gather in the city.

So what does this mean for Milwaukee…MORE JOBS! Bostik Inc.’s local manufacturing office has increased employment by 45 percent since their expansion.

The attention that the forum brought to the city will also help increase innovation as well. The Milwaukee location has already started to research hot-melt adhesives due to an intellectual group that includes students from the chemical engineering program at University of Wisconsin-Madison. Milwaukee is a place where significant research and development is taking place.

If you are considering moving to Milwaukee and are going to college, are a senior in high school applying to college, or just looking for a job, Milwaukee is becoming a center for innovation and job opportunity.

As previously mentioned, the Milwaukee Art Museum has been featuring the ‘Of Heaven and Earth’ exhibition which consists of great artists such as Bellini, Botticelli, and Titian. Although the museum is continuing the exhibit through the end of the year, they are discontinuing their ‘classic’ pieces temporarily. By November, the Milwaukee Art Museum’s traditional pieces will be rotating out for a full year as they begin the museums renovation.

The Milwaukee Art Museum has become one of the most significant art museums in the region and is due for a renovation in order to continue to serve future visitors. Complete restorations will be done in both the Saarinen and Kahler buildings that generally houses over 30,000 works of art. The renovation will make the complex more energy efficient, improve lighting, create more gallery space, fix deferred maintenance, and provide an additional lakeside entrance.

So if you have not visited the museum’s permanent collection, be sure to visit the works of artists such as Pablo Picasso before they are closed until next fall. However, if you are in the process of moving to Milwaukee and will not be able to make the deadline, don’t worry. Milwaukee Art Museum is still featuring several rare collections that you can enjoy in the meantime while renovations are being made.
